“Imagine a zero-emissions fuel that exists on Earth in abundance, can easily be extracted using basic chemistry and offers jobs and investment in Australia for decades to come.

That substance exists: it’s called Hydrogen”

Mission

We aim to be Australia’s one-stop-shop for large-scale hydrogen projects

Since 2012, Zenogen has been developing in-house expertise in hydrogen generation infrastructure, including by way of electrolysis and other industrial processes. In 2019, Zenogen was approached by renewable industry specialist investors to establish a domestic (Australian) capability for hydrogen infrastructure deployment, given lack of locally owned and operated businesses in the hydrogen-technology value chain.

We’re here to find and fill gaps, including:

  • Design, analysis and project engineering

  • Local coordination and support for international vendors deploying assets to Australia

  • Manufacturing and assembly of production plant for local clients

  • Generation of hydrogen (at any scale) for secure commercial uses

Vision

Zenogen: Second to none

Australia is one of the most diverse and high-yielding resources and commodities producers in the world, and our economy relies heavily on trucking logistics. We also have perhaps the best potential worldwide to displace fossil fuels with renewable fuels - in particular hydrogen generated from solar-, wind- and hydro-power.

We’re experts at building hydrogen generation systems for trucking fleets that leverage local renewable generation - and with these capabilities Zenogen aims to be Australia’s largest hydrogen generator, with gigawatts of production fuelling tens of thousands of hydrogen fuel-cell electric trucks, nationwide.

Our Story

Zenogen is the evolution of an early-stage technology commercialisation venture that was spun-out of UNSW Australia in 2012. In its first inception, the business was a commercial laboratory, and the focus was developing an electrocatalyst that improved the production economics of hydrogen manufactured using electrolysis – which tackled a cost-barrier that threatened to stall the burgeoning hydrogen economy.

During this time, Zenogen’s core team developed significant expertise in the construction of hydrogen infrastructure more broadly, including architecting key components such as fuel-cell and electrolyser stacks.

In 2019, Zenogen regrouped to establish local Australian domain expertise and a national hydrogen capability. We’re supporting large multinational OEMs as their ‘boots on the ground’ where support doesn’t exist in assembly and servicing of fuel-cell vehicles, and deploying gas-generation & refuelling infrastructure.

As at May 2020, we are currently working with a prominent local government in NSW to establish a zero-emissions fleet of municipal refuse collectors (‘garbage trucks’) and the matching refuelling infrastructure.
